Yoshikage Asakura

Yoshikage Asakura (, Asakura Yoshikage ) (September 24th 1533 - August 20th 1573) Samurai Japanese was a and a Daimyō of Echizen during the Period Sengoku of the history of Japan. He was the grandson of Toshikage Asakura.

Life

He becomes head of the Asakura household in 1548, making following his father Takakage Asakura. Echisen is then the prey of the revolt of the Ikkō-ikki, but Yoshikage manages to maintain peace on its territories. It will definitively overcome them in 1571.

In 1565, new the Shogun Yoshiaki Ashikaga requires of him to come to its assistance to help it to enter the capital Kyōto. Yoshikage hesitates and Yoshiaki then called upon Nobunaga Oda, which is vassal of Asakura. However, the shogun fears its general, and secretly forwards of the letters to various daimyō of which Yoshikage Asakura, asking them their assistance against Nobunaga. This one ventilates the plot, and invades Ichizen on suspicion. Following the treason of his/her cousin Kageaki Asakura, his stronghold of Ichijōtani is destroyed and Yoshikage is made Seppuku, consequently putting occasion end at the line of Asakura.
