Yoshihisa Shimazu
Yoshihisa Shimazu (島津義久) (1533 - 1611) is a Daimyo of the Period Sengoku with the Japan
In 1566, it took the head of the Famille Shimazu and became the sixteenth chief about it. He launched campaigns to unify the island of Kyūshū. Its first success occurred in 1572 when it gained the Bataille of Kigasakihara against the Clan Ito. In 1578, it gained a new victory vis-a-vis the Clan Otomo with the Bataille of Mimigawa. In 1583, it gained vis-a-vis the Clan Ryuzoji and in 1584 vis-a-vis the Clan Aso. Thus in the middle of the years 1580, the Shimazu family dominated most of the island except the fields of the Otomo clan. The unification was close.
However in 1587, Hideyoshi Toyotomi launched a campgne to pacify the island of Kyūshū with an army exceeding the 200.000 men, i.e. more than de five times the number of soldiers of Yoshihisa. Thus the troops of the Shimazu family were defeats and the clan preserved only the Province of Satsuma and the Province of Osumi. Yoshihisa shaved the head as a sign of rédition what showed that it would become buddhist monk if its life were saved. It was the case and it took the name of Ryuhaku (龍伯).
a little later Yoshihisa was invited by Ieyasu Tokugawa with the Château of Fushimi. Ieyasu required of him then how it had begun there to arrive to almost unifying Kyushu. Yoshihisa says to him then: " My three young brothers and my vassal as Tadamoto Niro fought so well and were so plain towards the same goal that I never was likely to prove my bravery on the battle field. I did nothing but wait in the Château of Kagoshima until the messengers bring the news of the victoires" to me;.
He died of disease in 1611 and was buried in Fukushoji in the town of Kagoshima.
