Yonten Gyatso

Yonten Gyatso (1589 - 1617) was the 4th Dalaï Lama.

Yonten Gyatso was born in 1589 in Mongolia from Tsultrim Choeje, a tribal chief Chokar and grandson Altan Khan, and his 2nd wife PhaKhen Nula. Yonten Gyatso of nationality Mongolian, was one of the 2 Dalaï Lama not to be born Tibetan, with the 6th Dalai Lama, of nationality Monba (Monbas can be regarded a population Tibetan or as people with whole share).

While basing itself on the predictions of oracles of State and the auspicieux signs to his birth, the abbot of the monastery of Ganden recognized it like the true reincarnation of the 3rd Dalaï Lama and the name of Yonten Gyatso gave him. However, his/her parents refused to separate from their only son before it is older. Yonten Gyatso thus received a primary religious education of Spangled Tibetans in Mongolia.

In 1601, at the 12 years age, Yonten Gyatso was escorted with the Tibet, accompanied by his/her father and the preceding holder of the throne of Gaden, Sangya Rinchen, which gave him the wishes of monk beginner. In 1614, at the 26 years age, it took the wishes of Gelong (the ordinance supplements) 4th Panchen LAMA, Lobsang Chökyi Gyalsten. He became later the abbot of monastery of Drépung, then monastery of Séra. In 1617, at the age of 27 it died in the monastery of Drépung.
