Yonaguni

Yonaguni is an island of Japan. The yonaguni, or Language yonaguni, is the spoken language on this island. This island is also famous for its immersed pyramidal structures (see the article on the Monument of Yonaguni) .

Geography

The island of Yonaguni is located at 125 km of the coasts of Taiwan. The island has a surface of 28,88 km ² for a population of 1723 inhabitants. The annual average temperature is of 23,9°C.

History

Until the last glaciation, Yonaguni was attached to the continent. In the 12th century, the island was incorporated in the Royaume of Ryukyu. At the 17th century, it became a possession of the Famille Shimazu. The island was officially attached to the Japan in 1879.
