Yo-yo

The yo-yo is a Jouet made up of two Hémisphère S flattened, joined together by a Axe around whose a string is rolled up whose one of the ends sticks to the Doigt or is retained by the Main. The play consists in launching the yo-yo and bringing back it in a continuous to and from. There exist other more complex figures which require more virtuosity.

History

The yo-yo is regarded as the oldest toy of the world after the Toupie. Its origin is unknown but it would seem that this object comes from the China or the Filipino , where he was used as a weapon. Its current name comes from the Tagalog (a language of Philippines). It was known in Greece there is more than two thousand years.

At the end of the 18th century, the Britanniques knew the play under the name of bandalore . Brought to France by the emigrants of the Revolution, it is called émigrette . Play with the mode in the Years 1920, the name yo-yo is deposited in 1930 by an American , Donald Duncan, which markets it with large scales.

The passion of the yo-yo knows its apogee towards 1962. In the Years 1980, it returns to the mode in the form of advertizing objects out of plastic approximately 5 cm in diameter. In 1999 the Japanese company Bandaged revival the fashion of the yo-yo thanks to a campaign of Marketing targeting the teenagers: free distribution with the leaders of opinion in the colleges, trainings of “pros”, organization of contest and demonstrations of streets.

This renewed interest is accompanied by an technical innovation: the toy is equipped with small runners which solidarize the Moyeu body of the yo-yo. When this one turns sufficiently quickly, the runners release from the hub under the effect of the Centrifugal force, making it possible the yo-yo to turn in free Roue. It should be noted that the yo-yo of years 1980 also make it possible to make free wheel thanks to a particular technique of fixing of the string. That however increases the difficulty of use of the toy: the yo-yo being always in free wheel, it is necessary to succeed in making adhere the string to the hub using a dry movement of the wrist so that it goes up
