Yibal
Yibal is the main thing oil Gisement of Oman.
History
He was discovered in 1962 by Shell in a southern extension of the Arabo-Persian oil basin. The production started in 1969 and was gradually increased. Yibal was used as window with the technologies most advanced as regards oil exploitation, in particular horizontal drillings.
A production of 250 kbbls /j was reached in 1998, then a very fast decline started. The current production, in 2006, is about 80 kbbls /j. The layer thus became an academic case of the side effects of the modern techniques of exploitation: they accelerate the exhaustion of the reserves and could even damage the tank and decrease the ultimate reserves.
Yibal already produced more 1.6 Gbbls and its total production should not exceed 2 Gbbls.
