Yew I Had has Hammer
If I Had has Hammer (The Hammer Song) is an American popular song written in 1949 by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays. It was recorded by The Weavers, the group folk the Seeger one, Hays, Ronnie Gilbert and Fred Hellerman. Song protestor, it does not meet a particular success then.
Recovery in 1962 by Peter, Paul & Mary, it is classified in Signal 10 American. But it is the version of Trini Lopez into 1963 which will be most famous. Disc of gold, n°3 in the United States, it rises in the first place in 25 countries.
Same year, it is adapted in French by Vline Buggy & Claude François ( If I had a hammer ), and interpreted by Cloclo and Surfings.
There are many versions, in particular by Odetta, Harry Belafonte, Billy Fury, Frank Alamo, Wanda Jackson, Sam Cooke, Leonard Nimoy, Handy Andy, The Neville Brothers, etc…
