Yeshe Dorje

The 11th Karmapa, Yeshe Dorje (1676 - 1702)

Yeshe Dorje was born in Mayshö in the East from the Tibet. He was discovered and recognized like the reincarnation of the 10th Karmapa, Chöying Dorje, by a Tertön, Mingyour Dorje. Shamar Yeshe Nyingpo and Gyaltsab Rinpoché confirmed the discovery which brought it to its seat, the Monastery of Yangchen to the central Tibet. The Karmapa young person received the ordination of monk to the monastery Tsourphou, where he was established. It receipt the lesson Kagyupa, but also Nyingmapa, of which in particular teaching Terchö which comes from the Indian Master Padmasambhava which was transmitted to him by Mingyour Dorje and Taksham Nuden Dorje. According to certain texts, Padmasambhava had predicted that the 11th Karmapa would be the holder of lines Terchö. The 11th Karmapa identified the 8th Shamar Rinpoché, Palchen Chökyi Döndrub, which became its disciple and holder of the line.

The 11th Karmapa restored the Monastery of Tsourphou, which had been plundered by the Mongolian . He was a visionary, and carried out many miracles. He could appear in various forms and cures blind men, of which the Abbot of Tingri. Treho Rinpoché, the regent of the 5th Dalaï Lama, rendi visit with the 11th Karmapa to receive lesson. Treho Rinpoché became a disciple of the 11th Karmapa and he encouraged to put a term at sectarian divisions with the Tibet.

The 11th Karmapa died in its 27e year and was that of the Karmapa S which will have had the shortest life time. It left, as had done it its predecessor, a letter detailed concerning its next incarnation.
