In a text of July 27th, 980, Yerseke appears under the name of Gersicha . Like so much from villages of the islands zélandaises, the establishment was born on the peak from a split where, inter alia activities, one raised sheep. It is supposed that the name Gersika / Gersicha comes from this old split.Towards 1870, ostreiculture appeared in Yerseke. For this purpose, one built the oyster ones where the Huître S are high by means of Tuile S. the mytiliculture also ocupé a place increasingly more important for the village. The single sale by auction of mould of the Netherlands is in Yerseke: the fishermen of the close villages come to sell their production to with it with the biddings.
The moulds were formerly fished thanks to small sailing ships, the hoogaarsen and the hengsten . Nowadays, one uses very modern ships having a sophisticated navigation system.
