Yennayer
Yennayer is the first New Year's Day of the agrarian calendar used since antiquity by the Berbères through the Numidie. It corresponds to the first day of January of the Calendrier Julien, which today is shifted 13 days compared to the Gregorian Calendrier, that is to say on January 14th of each year. Continuation probably with an error of the first religious organizations which preached the return to this traditional festival, threatened of disappearance, the opinion that the traditional date is on January 12th is very widespread - especially in Algeria.
Origins
About 1968, the Berber Académie proposed to create a " era berbère" just like it there has one Christian era and Islamic, and fixed like year zero of the Berber Calendrier the first demonstrations known of Berber civilization, at the time of the old Egypt, when the Libyan king Chechonq Ier (Cacnaq) founder of the 22e Egyptian dynasty took the throne and became Pharaon in Egypt. Before invading the Palestine, it reunified Egypt. With Jerusalem, it seized the gold and the treasures of the Temple of Solomon (an great event quoted in the Bible).Yennayer is the only festival nonMoslem commune with all the people of North Africa. In each area, it gives place to various festivities and family meals.
