Yellow

There exist (at least) five definitions of the yellow which indicate about the same color:

  • Like natural definition of the yellow, one will say that it is the color of lemon, the bark of this fruit being a spontaneous reference to the yellow color in very many cultures.
  • In Physical, “it is the Couleur of the Lumière whose Wavelength lies between 565 and 590 Nm”. It is in particular the spectral line of emission of the Sodium.
  • In chromy and additive Synthesis, “it is the red mixture of the lights and Vert E”.
  • In Painting, “it is the complement Violet”: the Pigment S yellows absorb all the wavelengths of the light excluded those which correspond to the yellow feeling, that they reflect.
  • In Printing works and subtractive Synthesis the yellow, is with the Cyan and the magenta , one of the three primary colors. With the Black , it is the base of color printing which one calls Quadrichromie.

Symbolic system

  • In the Symbolic system, in Occident, the yellow is associated with: richness, the father.
  • the origin of this symbolic system resides in the fact that the yellow is the color of the Or and the Sun, by extension it is associated with the joy, good mood, the idealism.

  • With the Red , the Blue and the Green , the yellow is one of the four colors adopted by the European Community for the containers and dustbins of the Recycling. The yellow containers are in theory intended to receive metal and plastic packing.

Use

In certain countries the yellow is the color of the Taxi S. This practice probably began with New York where Harry NR. Allen, an owner of taxi, has repaints its vehicle in yellow by learning that it was the most visible color by far. In other country it is the color of the post office and the letter-boxes, in particular in France and Switzerland.

It is also the color of the Yellow pages (phone book). Yellow Pages (or yellow pages) is a protocol of directory network developed by Sun called also NIS.

Many national flags use the yellow color, in particular the state of the Vatican.

Moreover, certain designers of mode use the yellow in their collections to raise the dye of the people who wear clothing.

Ethnic classification

The yellow term Race designates in a generic way the xanthoderm individuals, originating in East Asia. The use of this terminology was particularly current in Europe as from the 19th century, according to the classification of the human people according to one of the apparent criteria (theory racialist). A person of the native of the Far East type can be indicated like " yellow " , but this term is used little today, the most used expression in the language running being " Asian ".
