- Deceleration of the trade in Occident. It reaches especially the Neustrie, where were the commercial cities. The Austrasie, primarily agricultural, becomes the center of the royal power. The aristocracy endeavors to benefit from the decline of the king. The episcopal body, especially in the field mérovingien, seeks to obtain particular privileges for its grounds (donation of a monetary workshop, freedom from tax, immunity) to counterbalance the power of the aristocrats. The secular Church enters the political game and loses its religious influence. Certain clerks behave like military chiefs or policy, others use bonds of vassalage. Some practical barbarians are accepted by the Church (ordalie). The Paganisme reappears (Spain of North) and the superstitions and excesses of the worship of the relics develop. The habit to be made bury around the Church where the body of the saint rests triumphs.
