18 million inhabitants in Italy. The population of Italy increased by 35% during the 18th century, but by 66% on average in the remainder of the Europe. The population increases more quickly in the South than in North. Four cities doubled their population during the century: Naples (of 215 000 with 426 000 inhabitants), Turin (of 42 000 with 74 000), Catane and Libourne (of 16 000 with 45 000 and 52 000). Population of Rome (of 135 000 with 163 000), Genoa, Palermo, Trapani and Marsala increases by 20 to 45%. Venice, Milan, Bologna, Florence, Vérone, Ferrare, Mantoue and Modena stagnates.
