  • 150  000 inhabitants with Paris. 20  000 inhabitants with Lyon.

  • the budget of the State under Louis XI of France exceeds the 100 tons of equivalent money (135 tons in time of war). The direct tax provides the majority of the funds to the detriment of the royal field.
    • the economic policy of Louis XI tends, by a hundred instruments, “ to facilitate the trade and the productive life in general, to prevent the export of the noble metals, to hold to the French operators a well defined share of the traffic, to harm various enemies while acting on the exchanges”.
