Events

  • 26 vendémiaire (October 17th 1797): Peace treaty Campo-Formio, (end of the first coalition) between the France and the Austria. France recovers the Belgium and the Netherlands but abolishes the République of Venice which it yields to the Austria. France also gains the islands Ioniennes and ensures its seizure on left bank of the the Rhine and on the Italy.
  • 15 nivôse (January 4th 1798): meeting of the republic of Mulhouse in France.
  • 19 ventôse (March 9th): Jean-Baptiste Bessières, future Marshal of Empire, is made chief of Brigade.
  • 14 germinal (April 3rd): Decree introducing the decadal worship. It will be a failure.
  • 13 messidor (July 1st 1798): Unloading of Napoleon Bonaparte in Egypt.
  • Thermidor 3 (July 21st): Battle of the Pyramids: Bonaparte beats the Mamelouk S of Mourad Bey in Egypt.
  • Thermidor 14 (): Defeat of Aboukir: the French fleet of Egypt is destroyed by the Britanniques.
  • 3 fructidor (August 20th): Foundation with the Cairo of the Institute of Egypt.
  • 19 fructidor (September 5th): The Loi Jourdan poses the principle of the conscription for all the 25 years young ages, for one 5 years duration in times of peace and an unlimited way in time of war. The military service is obligatory in complement of voluntariate. The recruits are indicated by drawing lot.
  • Napoleon Bonaparte seizes Malta.
  • the Great Britain, the Austria, the Russia and the Turkey train one second coalition anti-Frenchwoman.
  • the French Armies invade Rome and the Suisse, involving the constitution of the republics Roman and Swiss.
  • Geneva becomes French.
