Yawned

Baïla is a village of the rural community of Suelle CR, located in the Arrondissement of Sindian and the Département of Bignona, a subdivision of the Région of Ziguinchor in the historical area of Casamance in the south of the country.

Presentation

History

A first edition of the Boukout - rites of initiation diola - took place in 1971.

The essence of the village was built in 1976.

Topicality

For the first time for 36 years, the ceremonies of the boukout have again taken place on August 4th 2007. They joined together thousands of people. The majority of the inhabitants are of Diolas, more precisely of Diolas Fogny, a subset of the ethnos group.

Administration

It is one of the 16 villages of the rural community of Suelle, in the district of Sindian (Département of Bignona).

Geography

The village is located at approximately 45 km of Ziguinchor and at 15 km of Bignona, on the trunk road N5 which goes from this city towards Banjul (Gambia). It is not far from the backwater of Yawned.

The closest localities are Tilaye, Belaye, Diounouge, Diakoye, Diatang, Kaparan and Diegoun.
