Yavnéel (in Hebrew: יבנאל ) is a municipality located at 10 km in the west of Tibériade, into Low Galileo, on the road Tibériade- Kfar Tabor. It is today in the territory allotted at the time of the patriarchs to the Tribu of Nephthali. Its name is already mentioned at the time of the Talmud under the name of Yama , which is moreover the first denomination of the place.
It is founded in 1901 by farmers originating in Metoula. According to the memories of the Sheper family, one of the families of pioneers of the city, a discussion then animated the founders as for the fact of remaining on the spot or of giving up them. The tergiversations ended by these remarks: “We do not have a house, but our children will have one of them! And if they are not our children, then it will be the case for our grandchildren. If we do not build, there will be never house!”.
Yavnéel represents the central city of Low-Galileo at the time of the 2nd Aliyah, because of the radicalism of its founders. It is also the base of the organization Hashomer.
Many years during, she fought for her survival vis-a-vis the hard living conditions and with the attacks of the Arab neighbors.
During the events of 1936, three of the inhabitants of the city are assassinated. In their memory in 1937 is created, on the grounds of Yavnéel, the Moshav Mishmar Hashlosha (“guard of the three”).
After the creation of the State of Israel, Yavnéel joint at the administrative level at three other cities, each one keeping its own autonomy: Smadar, Mishmar Hashlosha and Beït-Gan. It counts today 1600 inhabitants, of which the major part works the grounds.
In the years 2000 united a community of orthodoxe Juifs of the movement Braslev .
