The Crusaders built a castle with Yavné in 1141. The Seigneurie of Ibelin settled there, in the middle of the Royaume of Jerusalem before being conquered by Saladin in 1187.

Later, an Arab village called Yibna existed before 1948 and was emptied of its population during the first Israeli-Arab war. The modern Israeli city of Yavné was built near this site.
