Yash Johar (September 6th 1929 - June 26th 2004 with Mumbai, India) is a producer of cinema of bollywood and founder of the company Dharma Productions.

Career

Yash Johar began its career in 1952, while working for large Indian and Western production companies, in particular with Fritz Lang for the Bengal tiger and the Hindu Tomb , like with Sunil Dutt. It is then in charge of the production of the company of Dev. Anand: Navketan Films where it produces Hare Ruma Hare Krishna .

It founds its own company Dharma Productions in 1976 and produced, inter alia, two whodunnits with Amitabh Bachchan: Dostana in 1980 and Agneepath in 1990. The company remains in sleep a few years. It is started again in 1996, when Yash Johar associates with it his/her son Karan Johar as a realizer and a scenario writer of his films. The productions of Johar are then each time of large international popular successes: Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in 2001 and Kal Ho Naa Ho in 2003, last film produced by Yash Johar.

Yash Johar dies on June 26th, 2004 at the Lilavati hospital of Mumbai. “Yash Uncle” was a “gentleman producer” . It received at the time of the Zee Movies Awards of 2004 a Life Achievement Award and an immense homage of all the stars of Bollywood.
