Biography

Yannis Tsarouchis studied at the School of the Art schools of Athens of 1929 to 1935 in the workshop of Fotis Kontoglou (1931-1934). With this one, it initiated with the Byzantine painting. He studied also the popular architecture and costumes. He became thus one of the craftsmen of the artistic return to Grécité of the generation of the artists of the years 1930.
In 1935-1936, he travelled to Constantinople, Paris and in Italy. He initiated himself then with the art of the Renaissance and the Impressionnisme.

He settled definitively in Paris in 1967.

In the years 1980, the Foundation Yannis Tsarouchis was created in Marousi in the suburbs of Athens.

Style

Theophilos, Matisse or Giacometti influenced the work of Yannis Tsachouris.
