Biography

After promising beginnings in the motor bike, then in the championship of Formula Renault, which had launched the career of Alain Prost three years earlier, Yannick Dalmas gains this championship the following year, by adding up seven victories during the season. Its good performances draw the attention of Hugues de Chaunac, which engages it for the season 1985 in its Oreca stable of Formule 3, at the sides of Pierre-Henri Raphanel. The two fellow-members rafflent all and finish in the first two places of the championship. Yannick finishes second. It only did not leave given, since the following season, it gains six of the eleven races and the title, by beating Jean Alesi in particular. In 1987, it begins the season in Formule 3000, always within the Oreca team of Hugues de Chaunac, and obtains good performances (a pole position, two victories), before Gerard Larrousse does not give him opportunity of beginning in Formule 1 over the second Lola that its stable engages especially for the end of the season.

Yannick Dalmas begins thus in Formula 1 in the course of season, with Grand Prix of Mexico 1987 and obtains of good results for beginner, which does not have, which more is, the best car: three races, three qualifications and a fifth place with the Grand Prix of Australia. In four seasons of Formula 1 between 1987 and 1990 and two Grands Prix in 1994, it did not dispute which 23 Grands Prix, and gained no victory. He did not even never manage to go up on the podium and finished only once in the points. He did not obtain any pole position and nor better turn in race. It classified forever with the championship of the world of Formula 1, since he could not mark the points which its fifth Australian place should have been worth to him, not having disputed sufficient races in the season.

The season 1991, Yannick Dalmas will not do it in Formule 1. Convinced, after three difficult seasons, disturbed by diseases, which it will not preserve its wheel, it does not resist the soft eyes a long time only makes him Peugeot to run on the 905 in Sport-Prototypes. Associated with the former world champion of Formula 1 Keke Rosberg, Dalmas shines as of its first season by gaining two handles of the championship of the world. It will be associated the following year with the old driver with Formule 1 Derek Warwick and the pair of old drivers of F1 will offer to the French stable, directed then by Jean Todt, the pilot championships of the world and manufacturers. Yannick and Derek will be essential on Silverstone, Suzuka and especially on the 24 Hours of Mans (associates with Mark Blundell).

In 1993, the bankruptcy of the championship obliges Peugeot to make run its 905 only in Mans, where Yannick (associate with Teo Fabi and Thierry Boutsen) will obtain a beautiful second place behind the other Peugeot official. Deprived of wheel, Dalmas is folded back on the championship of France of Tourism in which it will sign three victories in two years. But Yannick will join again with the victory with the 24 Hours of Mans associated with Mike Haywood and Mauro Baldi, over Porsche 962.

At this point in time the Formule 1 reappears for Yannick in 1994 when Gerard Larrousse calls upon him for the Grand Prix of Italy and the Portugal, which will be its last race disputed in Formule 1.

In 1995, it integrates the TEAM Joest and runs in the German championnai DTM. It is the year when it gains its third victory in Mans at the wheel of a McLaren F1 GTR associated with the old driver of Formule 1 Finnish J.J. Lehto and Sekiya.

In 1996, always within the same stable, it takes part in the Championnat ITC. The two following seasons, it disputes the Championnat TRUSTED WP on a Porsche of the Roock Racing and gains the victory with the 12 hours of Sebring 1997 with a Ferrari 333SP.

In 1999, Dalmas is engaged by BMW in the championship ALMS, at the same time as Joachim Winkelhock and Pierluigi Martini. The trio carries it with the 24 Hours of Mans (fourth victory for Dalmas).
