Yang Shangkun (杨尚昆, pinyin: Yáng Shàngkūn) (May 25th 1907 - September 14th 1998) was the President of the Popular republic of China of 1988 with 1992, and was a vice president of the central military Commission.
Born in Tongnan, province of the Sichuan, it belonged to the group of the 28 Bolsheviks who studied with the Université Sun Yat-SEN of Moscow between the end of the year 1920 and the beginning 1930.
It took part in the Long walk. It held of the important positions with the Central committee of the Chinese Communist party of 1956 to 1966, but was retrogressed during the Cultural revolution. He was rehabilitated in 1978 and was elected president of the Politburo in 1982. As a president, with Deng Xiaoping, he played a big role in the repression of the student's movement of the place Tiananmen. Its nephew, Yang Jianhua, ordered the 27th army which was called province of the Hebei to repress the demonstration.
Having a great influence within the popular Armed with release, it was eliminated by Deng Xiaoping in 1992 because it made shade with Jiang Zemin. Its withdrawal like that of his/her brother, Yang Baibing, forced a great number of officers of high ranking of their friends to resign.
