Yana

IANA (in Russian Яна) is a river of Siberia Orientale, in Russia, in the republic of Sakha, which throws in the Arctic Ocean, in the Mer of Laptev. It is between the Lena in the west and the Indigirka in the east. It sprinkles in particular Verkhoïansk, Batagaï, Nizhneïansk and Oust-Kouïga. Its overall length is of 872 kilometers and its river Bassin of 238.000 km ². Its annual Débit is approximately 25 km ³, or 25 billion m ³, of which the greatest part runs out in May and June when the ices base on the river. Indeed, the IANA freezes on the surface in October, and thus remains under the ice until May - June. In the area of Verkhoïansk, the IANA remains cold to the heart from 70 to 110 days per annum, and partially cold approximately 220 days per annum.

The river is born from the rivers Sartang and Doulgalakh. The IANA is thrown in bay of Ianski in the Mer of Laptev in a gigantic delta of 10.200 km ². One counts approximately 40.000 lakes in the basin of the IANA, by counting at the same time the alpine lakes formed by the glaciation in the Monts of Verkhoïansk (the lowlands, too dry, do not freeze), and the lakes tank S in the marshy plains of the northern part of the basin. This last is entire in continuous Pergélisol, it is made up as a majority of larches becoming gradually of the Toundra beyond the parallel 70ème, although the trees can exist in microhabitats to the delta.

The principal affluents of the IANA are: the Adycha, the Oldzho, the Abirabit, and the Bitantay. The majority of its affluents are short rivers coming the tops Monts of Verkhoïansk.

The basin of the IANA is regarded as the cold Pôle of the Russia, bus of the records of temperature were recorded there (up to -70°C). See the article on Verkhoïansk . The folklore Iakoute says that at such temperatures, if you apostrophize a friend and that he does not hear you, it is because your words themselves have cold. However, when spring returns, the words thaw out and one can hear what was known as several months before.

The area of river IANA is also known to be the first site of dwelling of the Arctique, with traces of human presence gone back 30.000 thousand years (either 12.000 before the last glaciation).
