Yamit (in Hebrew: ימית) was the name of an Israeli establishment in the peninsula of the the Sinai in Egypt, established after the Guerre the six day old of 1967. This colony of settlement existed until in 1982, with the application of the Peace treaty israélo-Egyptian and Israeli withdrawal.

This new city was built at a completely deserted place. The relations between the new Bedouin colonists and the of the the Sinai never raised problems, according to many testimonys.

An agreement between Israel and Egypt stipulated that Egypt could pour 80 million dollars to recover the infrastructures and the houses built by the Israelis. However, the Prime Minister Menahem Begin decided at the last minute all to shave. According to the Israeli ambassador in Egypt at that time, Begin feared later a return of the former Israeli inhabitants and incidents with the possible futures resident Egyptian.

The decision all to shave was badly perceived by the Egyptian public opinion which nourished a strong resentment against Israel in spite of its withdrawal.
