Yamato (Kanagawa)

Yamato (大和市, Yamato-shi ) is a city (市, shi ) of the Préfecture of Kanagawa, with the Japan. The locality was founded in 1891 as a village, then became a borough in 1943 and finally a city February 1959. Population of the east city of 221.603 inhabitants for a surface of 27.06 km ² (2005).

American military base of NAF Atsugi is at Yamato and Ayase. It is at this place that the American occupying forces landed for the first time on the Japanese ground, on August 28th 1945.
