Yamaha XT 600

The Yamaha XT 600 is a trail, appeared with the catalog of the Japanese manufacturer to the end of the year 1982. It is first of all declined under the name of Yamaha XT 600 Ténéré, and strongly inspired by the machines engaged by Yamaha with the Paris-Dakar for the edition of 1983. It replaces mythical XT 500 of which it does not take again almost any element, besides its philosophy. This Ténéré version is recognizable with its fuel tank of 30 liters capacity, and with the presence of an oil radiator. A second model called XT 600 (very short) joined the initial version with the end of the year 1983. He dissociates Ténéré model by a reserve of lower capacity, the abandonment of the oil radiator, and by a height of slightly reduced saddle. All confused versions, Yamaha XT 600 continues its career during nearly 20 years. The antipollution standards oblige it to take its retirement in 2003.

Of a simple design, the one-cylinder engine four times of 595 cm ³, cooled by air, delivers 43 horses (31,6 kw) with 6  500 tr/min and offers a couple from almost 5 kg.m 1  000 lower turns.

Side left cycle, one finds a framework simple cradle, a telescopic fork, and an oscillating arm provided with a monoamortissor who constitutes a large progress compared to the traditional suspension of XT 500. The front brake is with disc, and the back brake, with drum on the first models, will be replaced later on by a model with disc. Main development is the adoption of an electric starter in 1986 on the engine 1VJ.

The weak weight (165 kg) and the reduced castor angle contribute to its Maniabilité. Indeed, of many Motor bike-school S used it with beginning of the year 90. Moreover, its purchase price contained and its reduced maintenance make a very economic machine of it. Only the height of important saddle can discourage the beginners. Of 1991 with 1994, a version 660 cm ³ called XTZ Ténéré, is marketed in parallel, offering a light supplement of power.

In the Eighties, the Motocrotte is launched. It acts in fact of the Yamaha XT 600 strongly modified.

In 2003, the “gromono” Yamaha is altered to pass the new antipollution standards. The XT 660 appears into two version: R and X.

Both propose a one-cylinder engine four times of 659 cm ³ to liquid cooling, supplied with injection, derived from that equipping the XTZ, and which develops 48 horses with 6  000 t/mn. The framework is a simple cradle, the brakes are with discs.

Version X is dissociated with an esthetics supermotard. One finds a wheel of 17 inches to front, against 21 for the R. the tires are broader, the front brake passes to 320 mm and is gripped by Brembo clamps. Moreover, esthetics is slightly modified.
