Yahya Abdul-Azziz Jemus Junkung Jammeh is a Gambian politician, born the May 25th 1965 in Kanilai, in a family of peasants. He is currently president of the Gambia.
Lieutenant of the army, it reaches the capacity with the favor of a Coup d'etat on July 22nd 1994, which reverses Dawda Jawara. Elected official first once in a doubtful poll in 1996, it is re-elected as of the first turn of the presidential election of the October 18th 2001 with nearly 53% of the votes. He is re-elected as of the first turn, the September 22nd 2006 for third a five years mandate with 67,33% of the voices compared with 26,6% with his principal opponent, the lawyer defender of the Human rights Ousainou Darboe. According to the CEDEAO, the vote was just, but the unequal means of electoral campaign.
Jammeh is classified like a predator of freedom of the press by Reporters without borders, and this since the promulgation of 2 laws restricting freedom of the press in 2004 and 2005 as well as the assassination (unsolved) of the journalist Deyda Hydara, an opponent with Jammeh, in December 2004.
In January 2007, he declared that he could treat the AIDS and asthma with grasses.
August 20th, 2007, during a data transmission diffused by the news agency controlled by the Gambian State, Jammeh also declared that it had developed a remedy for arterial hypertension containing medicinal herbs, which could cure the disease with only one amount. It justified its claims supposed by presenting several declarations of some of its ministries which had claimed to be cured after having taken the drug.
