Yahoo! Messenger
Yahoo! Messenger is a system owner of Instant messaging, VoIP and Visioconférence created by the company Yahoo!.
Yahoo! Messenger requires a preliminary recording at Yahoo for the opening of an account. There exists a program for Windows, Mac OS and Linux and a version Java for the platforms which support it.
The current French version of Yahoo! Messenger proposes environments (decorations), a great number of emoticons, the possibility of communicating orally with a microphone and of being able to see itself using a Webcam for Visio-conférence S. It also gives access to the services Yahoo (weather, purse, information, scores, etc).
History
At the time of its exit, ICQ reigned as an uncontested Master of the programs of instant messagings, but in front of this phenomenon, certain companies installed Firewall S to be protected as much from outside that to try to contain the too marked passion of some for the electronic discussions. In this context, Yahoo! Messenger was a great success thanks to the fact that, using the port 80 (the same one as for HTTP), it could be used inside any company authorizing the access to the Web pages.
Compatible software
It is possible to use other software to discuss with people under Yahoo! Messenger, but these programs offer less possibilities. Among these programs, one finds: Adium, CenterICQ, Pidgin, Gnuyahoo, Kopete, Kyahoo, Miranda, Wambo and Trillian.
It is also possible to be connected to the Yahoo! network Messenger with the users of the open standard of instant messaging Jabber via a footbridge (transport).
Since July 2006 it is also possible to be connected to the Yahoo! network Messenger starting from Windows Live Messenger.
