Yad

See Yod (letter) for the letter proto-canaanite .

Yad can be the abbreviation of Yad ha' Hazaka , another name of the Mishneh Torah of Maïmonide .

A yad (Hebrew: יד ), reads., " hand, " indicate, in the Jewish ritual , a ustensil being used to point the text lasting the Lecture of the Torah starting from the Parchemin of the Sifrei Torah. The purpose of the yad is to avoid the undesirable contacts with the parchment, in order not to wet ink, which would return the book of the Torah passoul (unsuitable with the reading). This is why, although not absolutely necessary, it is frequently employed.

A yad can be made in many materials, but the money is more often used. It generally has the shape of long stick, with a small hand whose index is the pointer itself.
