Yabassi

Yabassi is a city of the Cameroun located in the province of the Littoral and chief town of the department of the Nkam.

The principal spoken dialect is based it of Yabassi. However one finds there also other dialects originating in the department of Nkam like the bandem, the mbang, the dibom, the bodiman, the banya; one also finds there other dialects originating in other provinces of Cameroun like it bamiléké " of Yabassi" and Haoussa.

History

Origin of the name " Yabassi"

Yabassi is the place chief of the department of Nkam. This department counts three districts: the district of Yabassi, the district of Yingui, the district of Nkondjock. Yabassi is at the same time place chief of department and place chief of district. For this reason, Yabassi has a prefecture and a sub-prefecture. the prefect is the chief of the department and the first administrative personality of the city. the sub-prefect (still called chief of ground) is the owner of the district. Yabassi has a Court of Bankruptcy, a special police station, a gendarmerie (brigade of company and territorial brigade), and of the delegation secondary roads of the various ministries for the republic of Cameroun. Yabassi has in its center a traditional college D, mainstream education, a college of technical education, several primary education elementary schools of teaching, including one private. Yabassi has a hospital public and a private hospital. The district of Yabassi is divided into several districts and cantons. Thus, several chiefs traditional safeguard the traditions of different the regrouping ethnic.

Economy

The economy of the city rests primarily on rural agriculture. this sector employs more than 90% of the population. The principal products of agriculture are the food products (macabo, manioc, potato, yam, banana-plantain, etc). Since a few years, one notes also a proliferation of the culture of the palm tree with oil. This is made possible thanks to the fertile ground of the corner. The second economic sector is the sector of the small shop. Let us note that the hunting and fisheries sector is also rather active, but remains still artisanal. Finally, thanks to its dense forest, Yabassi is an appraisal city by the forest owners. Several gasolines there are found. Several Asian companies exploited this forests in turn. In the same way, a company has, at a moment given, exploited a plantation of hévéa now left in waste land. The city is handicapped by the lack of the roads bituminized, which makes difficult to traverse the 100 km separate this city from the economic metropolis of Cameroun, Douala.
