Ya (Cyrillic)
Ya (capital Я, tiny я) is the thirty-third and last letter of the Cyrillic alphabet.
Linguistics
In Russian, this letter represents its /ja/ (notation of the API). In this language, it is also about the personal pronoun “I”.
History
Letter Я is an hybrid of two letters. The first is a Ligature letter І and А, in a way similar to the letters Ю and Ѥ. The second is the Petit yus (Ѥ). With the wire of time, the phonetic distinction between ІА and Ѥ were lost and when the civil writing was introduced in 1708, letter Я was substituted to them.
