Synopsis

For Yorick, young artist of the escape, unemployed, current main from an undisciplined male capuchin baptized Esperluette, and in love with a splendid blonde (Beth) who ballade in Australia, all is well until the day when it decides to ask it in marriage on the telephone. At this point in time for an unknown reason, that several simultaneous events could explain, all the males die. All? Not, because in the chaos which follows, Yorick and Esperluette must survive, in the search of a solution, whereas the women reorganize to live without the men.

In its first adventure (episodes 1 to 5 originals, gathered in the first tome cheese of the VF), Yorick goes to Washington to find his/her mother while the government of the United States reorganizes. Between republican and democratic, which will become the new president of the United States of America? There will be action at the White House and Yorick will meet two people who could be well the persons in charge of the catastrophe which strikes the world and which will prove to be its allied. In this first volume, all is posed, of the surprising situations and the tasty dialogs, the characters attaching and an intrigue on a human scale, while the drawing remains of a good invoice and serves the history.

Thereafter (episodes 6 to 10 originals, gathered in the second tome cheese of the VF), Yorick will be found on the way of a possible remedy vis-a-vis a community of women which seems to have succeeded in adapting to the disappearance of the men without difficulties. But which is their secrecy? A second divides into volumes very succeeded or Yorick appears less perfect and open that one could believe it, ready to yield to temptation to mislead its been engaged, while a dramatic confrontation will take place which will upset it. During this time, in the shade, of the new threats are confirmed and of new stakes appear. The scenario of Vaughan really captivating, with one is made of the situations perfect, and Pia Guerra ensures the graphic part without failing. And the cliffhangers of end of episode are great moments of suspense.

The volume three of the VF exploits the last bounce in date: Is Yorick well the last man on ground, but in space? The direction of its search (to gain the laboratory where one will be able to seek the reasons of his survival) is somewhat disturbed by the need for managing this new unforeseen, with the end of which Yorick will remain, alas, the last man… for the moment.

In the fourth volume, Yorick undergoes a therapy of shock which purges it tendencies gift-quichottesques (thus suicidal) that it had expressed in the preceding episodes. It is thus animated Yorick of a new will to live which will make a gesture necessary but irrevocable.

The fifth volume is the narrative crystallization of a great number of tracks launched in the precedents (Yorick misleads its been engaged for the first time; he faces a certain number of his prosecuting) and starts a brief reply to the question of why of his survival (its monkey…).

Up to now this masterly series never disappoints, leading us of bounces in bounces without never disavowing the psychology of the characters (Yorick Brown and the two women with whom he travels: its " keep corps" , agent 355, and professor Allison Mann). In short, one finds there all qualities of the scenario writer Brian K. Vaughan: a nonconventional history, with an exact balance between actions and feelings.
