Yılmaz Güney

Yılmaz Güney (April 1st 1937 close to Adana, Turkey - September 9th 1984 with Paris, France) was a Réalisateur, Scénariste, Director, Acteur and writer of Kurdish origin . He was especially famous for his many films underlining manners and the living conditions of the Kurdish country world and the small people of the popular quarters restricted with precarious, painful and hard trades, then forced to yield with the political oppression and the flowing capitalism which destroy them ineluctably. In the row of world famous and having still a great number of cinematographic projects, Yilmaz Güney died in vain of a cancer of the stomach, at the 47 years age.

Its film Yol (“the permission”, literally “the road”) obtained the gold Palm ex-æquo with the Cannes festival in 1982.

  • (1937) Yılmaz Güney is born with Adana in Turkey;
  • (1961) it is imprisoned for 18 months to have published a “communist” novel;
  • (1974) it is imprisoned to have sheltered anarchistic students; it is released the same year at the time of a general amnesty, then turns over in prison to have shot at a judge;
  • (1981) it escapes from prison and arrives in Suisse;
  • (1981 it carries out its film Yol, the permission ;
  • (1982) Yol , palm of gold with Cannes, is interdict in Turkey;
  • (1984) Yılmaz Güney dies in exile in France;
  • (1992) its films are authorized in Turkey on the condition of censuring the terms “Kurdish” and “Kurdistan”.
