Introduction

Yu Yu Hakusho is initially a manga of 19 volumes, of Togashi Yoshihiro, published for the first time in Japan in 1991 in Shonen Weekly Jump, a weekly magazine of prepublication. Following the success of the manga, televised series of 112 episodes were carried out in 1992 by the Pierrot Studio and were diffused on chain Fuji TV, then 2 films (1993-1994) and 4 OAV (1995-1996). Even if Yu Yu Hakusho takes again certain elements of other successful series like Dragon Ball (relationship between the world of alive and that of deaths, the tournament of the demons…) and Holy Seiya (technique of attack…), it has specific qualities which make of this manga a success with share.

Short summary of the history

Yusuke Urameshi, fourteen years, is the perfect hooligan: brawler, refractory with the authority…

However, a day, he dies by saving a little boy of an accident… but this child would have survived miraculeusement even if Yusuke had not intervened. Not envisaged by the authorities of the kingdom of deaths, its sacrifice poses problem. This is why one proposes to him to return to the life, if it succeeds in proving that it of it is worthy. He then becomes detective of the world of the spirits and is equipped with capacities which will help it in its various tasks in the kingdom of deaths, accompanied by his friends Kuwabara Kazuma, Hiei and Kurama. It is a manga which was adapted in Anime in the years 1990. The strong points of the history are the combat in martial arts, of supers capacities increasingly more attractive and the more frightening enemies all the ones than the others. It is a manga which resembles in many features Dragon Ball of Akira Toriyama.

One notices also similarities between the characters of Yû yû hakusho and Hunter × Hunter, another series of Yoshihiro Togashi, whether it is on the psychological level or physics: Yusuke and Gon for their ingenuous and naive side, Hiei and Kirua for their past of assassin, Kurama and Kurapika for their calm and considered appearance like their mysterious side, and finally Kuwabara and Léolio for their temperament go-ahead type in the large heart and their apparent stupidity.

Characters

Yusuke Urameshi :14 years old schoolboy, Yusuke is a solitary hooligan. It is the worst pupil of its college, it spends its time to brawl and drying the courses. Moreover, it does not respect the teachers. But fortunately it has a good bottom, it lost the life by saving a little boy. As the kingdom of dead did not envisage its death, one gives him a chance to return to the life. In exchange, Yusuke becomes a spiritual detective of Reikaï. It obtains the Astral Ray thus, making it possible to project a ball of energy concentrated at the end of its right index. It is only at this time there that Yusuke starts to find its place in the life, pursueing the demons which attack the human ones. Towards the oddment, one will learn that it is downward of Maozoku, monster considered as the god of the combat.

Kuwabara Kazuma : Kuwabara is the largest rival of Yusuke to the Sarayashiki college. Like Yusuke, it is a hooligan brawler. Before to have met Yusuke, it forever lost only one combat. The death of Yusuke shows us that in the final analysis, it estimated it. With the resurrection of Yusuke, they become accessory and fight together. While taking part in the eliminating heats to become disciple of Genkaï, he will discover that it is able to create the " Reikino Ken" , a sword of mental energy. It is in love with Yukina, the half-sister of Hiei.

Hieï : The true origins of Hiei are unknown. It is a epeist equipped with an incredible force and a speed. He has the " Jagan" (cursed Japanese eye), a third eye which it hides behind a frontal stringcourse, which confers magic capacities to him: capacity to control the weak hearts or the monsters of less power, to visualize very distant things… Hiei rigorously respects its own code of honor. As such, it helps those which help it, and is faithful to those which managed to gain its respect.

Yohko Kurama : Kurama is not really human. It was an old sanguinary spirit of + 1000 years. It was réincarné in an human body and bears now the name of Minamino Shuichi to escape hunters from the kingdom from the spirits (Reikai). It is a powerful warrior knew under the name of the legendary sanguinary gangster yohko kurama! he has a large cold blood and he has much experiment. Even vis-a-vis the adversity, Kurama remains always calm. It joint with Yusuke because this last did not hesitate to risk its life to save his/her human mother. Kurama is very good allied it controls the plants! and its favorite weapon is the " Pink Whip" , thorny whip.

Botan : A messenger of the kingdom of deaths. Botan is charged to guide the hearts of dead towards Reikaï, the Kingdom of the spirits. She came to seek Yusuke after her accident and led it towards Koemma. After Yusuke became a detective of the kingdom of deaths, Botan becomes its assistant, on order of Koemma. Its knowledge and its experiment make of it an assistant of first order.

Keiko Yukimura : Friend of childhood of Yusuke. At the beginning, it was the only one to know its true personality and will be very affected by the disappearance of her friend. Keiko is a very brilliant and popular girl in its school. Keiko will accompany yusuke at the time of the combat by martial arts of the shade! towards the oddment have will be that keiko is in love with yusuke and that this loves is reciprocal!

Koenma : The son of king Emma, the judge of the kingdom of dead which decides to sending or not men in hell. It deals with the kingdom during the absence of his father. It is old approximately 700 years. It is him which entrusts the missions to Yusuke.

Genkai : It becomes the Master of Yusuke after this one had gained the various tests during the tournament of selection of disciple. Formerly, during a tournament of martial arts of the shade, it had had as a partner Toguro, a very powerful combatant who passed on the bad side. When it uses the technique of Reidokha combat to its maximum, it finds its appearance of youth.

Yukina : Yukina is originating in the kingdom of the Ices (in the World of Darkness). It is also the half-sister of Hieï but it is unaware of it. It has the capacity of cure and is able to freeze the environment. When Yukina cries, its tears harden and become named jewels of great value Hiruiseki . Thus Yukina becomes the target of the billionaire without scruples Gonzô Tarukane. It appears in volume 6 of the manga.

Toguro : Very powerful combatant. Formerly, he was the partner of Genkai during a great tournament. There decided to sell its heart with the devil to remain eternally young and thus to keep all its force. Toguro is able to multiply its force by 100 or more. Although it is side of the evil, it has its code of honor. After its Koenma death the various types of monsters he explains says that Toguro is a monster of class B.

Sensui : An human being, who, formerly was a detective of Reikaï, like Yusuke. At the time of its last mission, it rebelled against the human ones that it protected, in the name of all the atrocities which they can make. Very extremely, it can create electric spheres, as powerful as the Astral Ray of Yusuke. It is a rather strange character, owing to the fact that it has 7 different personalities! But its power is without common measurement with the other human characters. Indeed, it has divine Energy, capacity absolute and crowned for the Man (hoisting it on the level of a monster of class S.)

3 Kings of the World of the Demons

Yomi:

Former member of the band of robbers of Yohko Kurama as an assistant of this last, Yomi was proud and impulsive what created problems with Yohko. He neglected the councils of his chief and exposed his men to the dangers. Kurama had enough of it and thus engaged a killer to eliminate it. Yomi heard the rumor according to which a priceless treasure was hidden in a castle. It was found vis-a-vis a demon which massacred its men without the least difficulty. This demon was much more powerful than him was it at that time. It burst the eyes to him and left it for death. Even if Yomi survived this meeting, it however lost the sight definitively. Thereafter, it became calculator and wiser. Because of its blindness, it developed an incredible hearing and can, now, fight without the sight. Yomi is able to perceive the least change of temperature in the body of a person, the blood pressure, the cardiac rhythm,… Of this fact it is very difficult to lie to him or to hide things to him. Yomi is an intelligent “man” but it does not have the strategic quality of Kurama. This is why it calls upon him to supplant its rivals: Mokuro and Raïzen. methods: It prefers to use the intimidation to put to the pressure its enemies it learned how to gather founded information. It will fight at the time of the duel organized by Yusuke. Raizen:

Father of Yusuke, it had fallen in love with human. The latter was an exceptional healer. Raïzen quickly understood that this talent was not innate in its family: the young woman reaches this level by her simple will. It there two versions concerning their meeting: that of the manga and that of the series.

(series) Raïzen was continued. It took refuge in a house which it believed vacuum. At this time it met this guerrisseuse. The wounded indicator, the young woman proposes to look after it.

He does not manage to eat it because its body contains diseases and poisons which dissolve the stomach of a demon in little time. It included/understood whereas this woman was made for him. It made him the court. He promised to re-examine it one day and not to eat the other human ones by then. Unfortunately, she died by putting a child at the world before he can re-examine it. Mazokus are characterized by their longevity. He thought of being able to long enough live in order to see his reincarnation. He spent 700 years to await it without eating the human ones. Raïzen died surroundings 1 month after the arrival of Yusuke in the world of darkness. During a crisis of insanity, it tries to kill his son but it is begun again. Before dying of hunger, it counts its history to him and gives him councils if Yusuke would like to bind an alliance with one of the other powers. He advises Mukuro to him because she likes the world of darkness such as he is and does not aspire to any change whereas Yomi has an ambition without limits.

Mukuro

Mukuro is one fighting very powerful, actually semi-woman-semi robot. It was given up by her relative being baby. It was found by a merchant of slaves. It known only slave system until it manages to escape. She sought her parents; but the latter rejected it again. Not managing to demolish its shackles, it made of it the standard of its bitterness and its hatred. Young person, it was like Hiei, only and sadist. It became strong all alone… It accumulated the engagements. Men followed it and it becomes the rival of Raïzen. And Hiei for its real obscure side chooses…

Their Quarrel

Aurtefois their competition was " affective". Their points of view diverge on all now. One of its points is: food. Yomi, Raïzen and Mokuro are monsters antropophages. They do not manage to agree on the way of considering the human ones

Raïzen proposed not to eat the human ones more.
Mukuro takes on it when it eats and says of it that its stomach does not support anything else.
Yomi says that there will be always enough for everyone and that would be damage to deprive itself some.

Each one patiently waits in order to seize the power and to reign without division on the world of darkness. Raïzen is dying and will not be able to intervene soon any more in these businesses. Mokuro likes the actual position of the things. She wants to interfere neither in the world of human nor in that of the spirits. Yomi on the other hand is much worse and ambitious. He wants to dominate the 3 worlds.

King of the World of the Spirits

" Its majesté" Enma:

King Enma is actually a giant who reigns on Reikai. He gives orders and it is all that he can do separately to beat his son as soon as he of on the occasion. Besides there does nothing but remain sitted in its immense throne.

Botan because of its size is frightened by it and as soon as it raises a little the ton the Earth trembles about it and as soon as its anger bursts the unstable lightning also bursts it and the volcanos enter in eruption (see episode " 3 brigands" Volume 3, Koenma warns Botan that if Yusuke did not manage to recover the fetishes of his/her father, its majesty would be so much in anger that all the volcanos of the Earth would enter in eruption and that its fate depended on it - that of Koenma-) Its tyranny is powerful but nobody contradicts it that flatters his ego.

Ningenkai : (the world of human)

It is located between Reikai and Makai.

Reikai :

The world of the spirits, the kingdom of deaths.

Makai :

The world of the demons.

Force

In Yû yû Hakusho, the force of the combatants is classified by a class: E, D, C, B, has, and S (order of increasing power). And according to the power of the various monsters, the symbol " +" or " - " their is atribué. Yusuke begins the series with a power of C and finished with a power of S+.
