The xylogravure indicates the action to engrave a drawing on a board of Bois, generally with a gouge or a graver. One calls a xylography the test obtained by the impression of this wood plate but it is also the name of this technique. Thus if Escher initially were interested in the Gravure on wood, it were then interested in the Lithographie, and the Mezzotinte.
