Xonrupt-Longemer

Xonrupt-Longemer is a common French, located in the department of the the Vosges and the area Lorraine. Its inhabitants is called Xonrupéens.

Geography

The commune occupies the high valley of the Vologne which extends until the Col from Schlucht. The steepsided valley, modelled by the Glacier S of the Quaternary , shows a minimal altitude of 642 Mr. the Lac of Longemer is located center upstream, with the altitude of 736 m, the Lac of Retournemer to 776 m, and the culminating point, close to the Hohneck, is the High of Falimont (1306 m).

History

The commune of Xonrupt was created by a law of the October 22nd 1919 which divided into two the commune of Gérardmer. It counted 809 inhabitants then. The name of the lake was affixed later with an aim of recognition tourist.
