Xipe Totec

In the Aztec Religion, Xipe Totec (“our lord the sectional view” in Nahuatl) is a god of the revival of nature, agriculture and beneficial night rain. It skins itself to nourish humanity, thus symbolizing the grain of Maïs losing its envelope before germinating. He is also the owner of the goldsmiths.

Its worship proceeds during the second month of the Aztec Calendrier, Tlacaxipehualiztli (literally “skinning of the men”. It implies human Sacrifice S, one of mass with pulling up of the heart and the other reserved for the elite of the warriors: he opposes a voluntary prisoner of high ranking to knight-eagles and knight-jaguars. The two types of sacrifices are concluded by skinning from the victims.
