Xine
xine (officially, decides, like the first name " Maxime" but without “My”) is an engine of Multimedia player for the Systèmes Unix under license LPG. More precisely it is about a library free Multimédia available making it possible to read files multimedia under many operating systems (Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, Irix, Mac OS X, Windows, HP-UX, OpenBSD).
The library xine-lib constitutes the engine of several readers multi-media. Among them xine-ui and gxine are maintained in the xine project. Several graphical interfaces can be used independently for management of video posting. The audio stream and videos are decoded with the program FFmpeg resulting from another independent project. It is also possible to add imported codec S win32codecs Windows.

Graphical interfaces
Several projects independent of graphical interfaces using the Xine engine were create. Among those one finds:
- Kaffeine is the Multimedia player integrated in the project KDE
- Totem is the Multimedia player integrated in the project GNOME
- xine-ui is a light graphic frontal, independent of the graphic offices (GNOME or KDE) and functionally advanced. The order xine is called upon to start the Multimedia player Xine starting from a console.
