Xiaolian
Xiaolian (Chinese traditional and simplified: zh-Hant 孝廉, Pinyin: xiàolían ), “filial devotion and incorruptibility”, was a criterion of nomination of the Mandarin S in ancient China.
The criterion of filial devotion and incorruptibility was instituted by the emperor Wudi Han in 134 av. J. - C. (1 year of Yuanguang) on the councils of Dong Zhongshu. The persons in charge of each district had as an order to annually recommend a person for her filial devotion and another for its incorruptibility so that those unite the public service. This system made it possible to bring young talents in the administration and under the Western Han dynasty the independent source of civils servant constituted.
