Xiangtan (湘潭; Pinyin: Xiāngtán) is a city of the province Hunan in China.

The population of the urban area was of: 662337 inhabitants in 1999.

Administrative divisions

The city-prefecture of Xiangtan exerts its jurisdiction on five subdivisions - two districts, two city-counties and a county  :

• the district of Yuetang - 岳塘区 Yuètáng Qū   ;
• the district of Yuhu - 雨湖区 Yǔhú Qū   ;
• the town of Xiangxiang - 湘乡市 Xiāngxiāng Shì   ;
• the town of Shaoshan - 韶山市 Sháoshān Shì   ;
• the county of Xiangtan - 湘潭县 Xiāngtán Xiàn .
