Xerox PARK (for Xerox Palo Alto Research Centers ) is a research center in Informatique of the firm Xerox, located at Palo Alto in California.
Founded in July 1970 by Jack Goldman and Bob Taylor. The laboratory is initially composed teams coming from Berkeley Computer Corporation and of students and colleagues of Douglas Engelbart.
Their research will be at the origin of the concepts of graphic Environnement, like the icon S or the mice, popularized by Apple, Inc. with the Macintosh and then included in all the operating systems general public.
Alan Kay, one of the pioneers of all that is today in a Ordinateur (directed Programmation object, ARPANet, image 3D, graphic Environnement, laser impression, protocol network Ethernet) there worked, just as Chris Maeda and Gregor Kiczales, which developed the directed Programmation aspect.
The ideas of the researchers of the PARK, at the beginning of the Years 1970, were influenced considerably by the precursory work of J.C.R. Licklider, director of the ARPA in 1963 and author of the articles “ Man Computer Symbiosis ” and “ Man Computer Partnership ”.
