Xavier de Planhol

Born in Paris in 1926, doctor be-letters, Xavier de Planhol is professor emeritus at the university of Paris-Sorbonne (Paris IV) after having taught during more than forty years the geography of the Islamic world at the universities of Nancy then of Paris, like with the National institute of the Languages and Eastern Civilizations. The main themes which marked out its scientific career are: relations between the man and the medium, the pastoralism, the historical and cultural Geography, the urban geography, political geography, particularly in the world turco-Iranian which is its field of predilection. He is president of the Academy of Science of overseas, to which he belongs since 1979. He also belongs to Academia Europaea since 1990
