Xavier Grall
Xavier Grall is a Journaliste, Poète and Breton writer born the June 22nd 1930 with Landivisiau (Finistere) and dead the December 11th 1981 with Quimperlé (Finistere).
Its mystical work magnifie the Brittany. Xavier Grall “becomes again Breton” when it leaves Paris in 1973, to turn over definitively in the area of Bridge-Swallow-hole. He exerts with the catholic Life, of which he was editor association, with the Journal Le Monde, the weekly magazine Christian Témoignage, and with the monthly magazine Brittany.
Its memories and investigations into the Guerre of Algeria lead it to be detached from the " haute" idea that it had France:
I made the Guerre of Algeria, in the sun of the wolves my eyes opened. Tearing revelation. Of Djebel Amour to the Black Mountain, that similarities. Even tyrant: the French State. Even victim: the peasant. Even cop: CRS (…). When one saw France torturing, one can put only flat at the song which one had rocked us (…). The image of France that I had been formed, very high and so to speak mystic, was tarnished forever.
Xavier Grall takes conscience of its Breton identity then:
You are discovered Breton as it is not allowed to be it. (…) And you think that your country that exists, good god, terribly. You are recovered. You look at yourself opposite. You decolonize yourself. You are Berbère, Kabyle, Breton. From there, its works diversify: Xavier Grall, poet and novelist, built a single work, example of the Breton literature of French expression.
With his friends Alain Guel and Glenmor, it is recipient of the foundation of the editions Kelenn, where it publishes Barde imagined (1968), Keltia Blues (1971), the festival of the night (1972), and Rires and tears of the Swallow-hole (1978). Alain Guel, which followed its first steps in literature, and with which it maintained an abundant correspondence, counted among his/her best friends, whose support and friendship were never lacking until the end of its life.
Joining again with its past of chronicler, it publishes the Horse lying , shingling answer to the “ folklorism fossilizing ” Cheval of pride of Pierre-Jakez Hélias, delivers that he will regret thereafter. Xavier Grall also remotely continues his collaboration with Le Monde and the Life . He publishes tickets, chronicles - the ticket of Olivier , exposed his passions and of its moods on subjects of topicality -, tests on François Mauriac or James Dean, etc
With the beginning of the year 1970, it founds the Breton nationalist newspaper the Breton Nation with Alain Guel and Glenmor, where one finds his texts under the pseudonym of " Herbot" saint; , inter alia.
He dies of disease in 1981.
Each year a scene of the Festival of the Old Plow of Carhaix bears its name.
