X 4300

The X 4300 are Autorails bicaisses (comprising a motor coach and a trailer) of the family of EAD (Motorized Elements Diesel).

Built in great series, these machines marked the beginning of a renewal of the motorized park with the SNCF in the Années 1960. Currently, X 4300 count nothing any more but some elements in service. Some were repurchased by tourist railroads.

Technique

X 4300 flat lay out of a SGCM-Poyaud engine 12 cylinders localized under the motor coach. The transmission is mechanically made through an automatic box 8 speeds. Their modest power of 295 kw often limited this series to lines with the relatively flat profile, but breakings of motorization were legion in the series.

Service

These rail-cars were built of 1963 to 1970 in 4 great under-series adding up 151 specimens. Their history, commune with that of the X 4500 is detailed on the page of EAD.

The Années 2000 transfer the end of the great revisions and the beginning of massive radiations, of new series of modern machines making their appearance, such as the X 72500 or X 73500.
