The US XVIIIth Airborne Corps was founded the October 9th 1943 with a mission of drive during the Second world war.
As of its arrival with the the United Kingdom, the unit which gathers the 17th , 82nd and 101st Airborne Division takes the denomination of XVIIIth ABN (Airborne) Body .

The capitulation of the Japan will put a temporary term at the activities of the XVIIIe dissolved airborne body before “jumping” on the Japanese archipelago.
It is of this time that date the famous white square decorated with the dragon Bleu with smoking naseaux which decorates the top of the left sleeve of its Soldat S.
Reactivated for the War of Korea the May 21st 1951, the XVIIIe body will be of all the conflicts which will carry out from the United States: Dominican Republic, War of Vietnam, Grenade, Panama, war of Kuwait, War of Afghanistan (2001), war in Iraq.
Mission
Following the Islamic revolution in Iran, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and with the risks of Soviet seizure on the the Middle East, the “Dove” Jimmy Carter is transformed into falcon and decides to create into 1979/1980 the Fast Rapid Deployment Force US which will become the United States Central Command or CENTCOM.The XVIIIe airborne body, always baptized Dragon Body , is the terrestrial part of the CENTCOM whose mission is to intervene as soon as possible in the world everywhere where the American interests are concerned.
Prepared with the basic conflicts or average intensity, the XVIIIe body must be on the spot as soon as possible. Thus the Régiment of alarm of the 82e American airborne division is able to jump on an objective ten hours only after having received its notice.
The majority of the units of the XVIIIe body are transportable by air by the airfreighters of the US Air Force the such C-5 and C-17 or in the past the C-141.
The heavy units and in particular the tanks M1 Abrams are them taken along on-site by the FSS (Fast Sealift Ships) of the US Navy.
As example, in 1990,2 Fast Sealift Ships only, the US Denebola and US Bellatrix were necessary to unload the 197e American mechanized brigade. The voyage of the port of Savannah in Georgia, with Damman, in Saudi Arabia having lasted only 10 days.
The XVIIIe body, to fulfill its various missions, has several great units of combat which gives him a single versatility in US Army and can thus intervene everywhere against any type of adversaries that it is an operation anti Guérilla, a police operation in urban environment or against a mechanized armor-plated adversary.
Even if they all are not airborne in spite of the denomination, all divisions of the body must be regarded highly reliable units and, in the case of the airborne 82e and 101e, as exceptional units.
