Oar

  • 1315 . First trace of regattas of oar. The race takes place with Venice.

Football (drunk)

  • April 13rd 1314. The mayor of London proclaims the prohibition of the practice of football (drunk) “because of the great disorders caused in the City”.
  • 1331 . The king of England Edouard III prohibits the practice of football (drunk) and recommends on his subjects the exclusive practice of the shooting to the arc.
  • June 12th 1365. Schedule of king d' Angleterre Edouard III which prohibits the practice of football (drunk)… without great effects!

Play of palm

  • June 5th 1316. Death of the king de France Louis X after part of play of palm: it took cold after a match.
  • 1392 . One counts eight rooms of Jeu of palm in Paris. The number of spaces of play in the open air is considerable, because each square meter of street perhaps colonized by the players…
  • January 22nd 1397. Schedule of the provost of Paris which in particular points out the prohibition of the practice of the Jeu of palm. The players do not hold obviously any account of this interdict…
  • June 22nd 1397. The provost of Paris prohibits the practice of the Jeu of palm the every day, except Sunday “because several professionals and others of the small people left their work and their family during the business days, which was extremely prejudicial for the good law and order”. Once again, the players do not hold any account of this interdict and of the parts take place the every day, with the great despair of the municipal authorities…

  • 1317 . First mention in France of the ninepins.

equestrian Tournament

  • May 1389. The king of France Charles VI is distinguished at the time of an equestrian tournament. Froissart, which brings back this fact to us, is perhaps obliging; Charles VI in is not less one authentic not impassioned and a rather solid jouster. He transmits the virus to his descent. The equestrian tournament is an individual version of the tournament putting face to face the knights who undertake. This new sport with the mode requires many adaptations, as well on the level of the armours as on the level of the lances, much shorter as those used with the war. Appearance of a barrier, the string, along which the knights in opposite directions gallop, of which the use spreads only at the 15th century.
  • May 1390. Equestrian tournaments with Saint-Inglevert which last all the month.

Water tournaments

Hurling

  • 1366 . Municipal ordinance of Kilkenny prohibiting the practice of Hurling (form of the French play of the stick).

Fight

  • 1337 . Bertrand Of Guesclin (1320-1380), then 17 years old, gains a tournament of Breton fight (Gouren). The future Connétable of France gains later other tournaments of Breton and practical fight also the drunk one.

General sports

  • 1319 . The king of France Philippe V prohibits the practice of the plays and recommends on his subjects that of the shooting to the arc. It is indeed necessary to practice quasi daily to be able to effectively bandage the long military arcs of this time. The French do not hold any account of this royal interdict…
  • 1337. The king of England Edouard III interdict on his subjects practice of all plays, ordering the intensive practice of the shooting to the arc. The English do not hold any account of this royal interdict…
  • April 3rd 1369. The king of France Charles V prohibits the practice of plays (dice, drunk, palm, etc) under penalty of fine and recommends the practice of the shooting to the arc. In spite of the royal interdict, the practice perdure at the great day!
  • 1378 . Birth of Vittorino de Rambaldoni, Italian pedagog who passes to be one of the fathers of modern physical education.

Shooting with the arc

  • 1369 . Schedule of the king de France Charles V which officializes the competitions of shooting to the arc and the crossbow. Such competitions are attested in France as of the previous century, but their characteristics are unknown for us.

Tournament

  • 1307 - 1327. Reign of Edouard II, king d' Angleterre, who promulgates in 20 years not less than 40 prohibitions of tournaments and tournaments.
