XIIIe Egyptian dynasty
Is the first of the second intermediate period. It would cover the period going of -1801 or -1786 (according to) or -1766 (according to) or -1759 (according to) with v. -1650 or -1634 (-1750 according to Altemüller). The kings arrived at the capacity, often by way of usurpation, manage only seldom to reign on all the country, their authority being disputed by other local usurpers. It is obviously the principle even of succession which is in question. Under the 13th dynasty one distinguishes two lines from kings, who resided respectively at Thèbes and Ithet-Taoui around Licht, the administrative capital.
The 13th dynasty however hardly involves change in the art and the operation of Egypt, this is why certain Egyptologists do not count it in the second period intermediate.
Whereas constituted it a family unit, the kings of the 13th dynasty do not have a sufficient credit, they can seldom found a line, their reigns last a few years, even a few months. Number of them are Asian commoners, soldiers or foreigners.
The country is divided into three administrative districts: the North which relates to the delta and the area of Memphis, the head of the South which relates to Thèbes and its area, and the South which goes from the Fayoum to the Nubie. The periods of balances and stabilities will alternate in the country with those of disorders and guerillas. Paradoxically whereas the throne is agitated ceaseless sudden starts, the senior officials remain in place, continuing the administration of the kingdom.
It is difficult to make a list very right of the kings of this dynasty, Manéthon and the Papyrus of Turin gives an about sixty names, but too of them are badly known even completely unknown. The order of the kings below is thus very dubious and varies according to the specialists.
