X-ray J0852.0-4622

X-ray J0852.0-4622 (or SNR G266.2-01.2 , GRO J0852-46 , Calved Junior ) is a Rémanent of supernova located in the Constellation of the Voiles. It is of remanent extremely young person, whose estimated age is about 700 years, and about an extremely close object, located at approximately 200 Parsec S of the Ground. In spite of these characteristics, it does not seem to exist any historical testimony of the observation of the Supernova which gave him birth.

Its traditional name of Vela Junior comes from what it is located in a direction close to Vela (XYZ), remanent the vastest and the notable one of this constellation, which shelters the Pulsar PSR B0833-45 (also called pulsar of Calved).

Discovered

X-ray J0852.0-4622 was discovered in 1998. Its discovery was carried out by two groups. One used a traditional technique of cartography in the field of the X-rays using the Artificial satellite ROSE, the other used a new technique hitherto: detection using the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory of the Gamma rays result of the radioactive Decay of the Isotope 44 Ti. This element is indeed produced in the late phases of the explosion of a Supernova.
