is a Japanese Televised series in kind Metal heroe of 44 episodes 26 minutes, created by Saburo Hatte and carried out in 1982 by Hattori Kazuyasu and Toshiaki Kobayashi. In France, the series was diffused starting from the October 26th 1983 on Antenne 2 in the emission Récré A2 .

Synopsis

Bolzar, an Extraterrestrial coming from Étolia, a planet much more advanced than the Earth, is sent on blue planet in order to defend it against C-Rex, a race of quarrelsome beings which want to extend their domination to the whole of cosmos. On Earth, Bolzar finds a woman. Both have a child, the future one X-But.

During the childhood of X-But, Bolzar and his/her scientific friend work on a weapon able to destroy C-Rex. But those have wind of the business and try to seize the weapon. Unfortunately the mother of X-But will be killed, after having returned her son on Étolia to save it. Bolzar then continues its work on the secret weapon.

Twenty years passed. C-Rex try once again to seize the weapon and this time removes Bolzar. X-but is then charged to take the changing of his/her father on Earth in order to protect it, because C-Rex continue to be interested of very close with our planet. Animated by the desire to be avenged and find his/her father, X-But then works incognito on Earth in the ranch Abalon Club and is made call Gordan.

Characters

• Gordan/X-But (Retsu/Gavan) : hero of the series, it is a “Dispenser of justice of the Space” sent by the defense committee of the Etolia planet, with an aim of defending the Earth of the ceaseless attacks of C-Rex. By shouting “Transmutation! ”, it is able to cover instantaneously a technological combat diving-suit, which multiplies by ten its forces (each time, a Stock shot enables us to re-examine the scene “with the idle”). It must however preserve its secret identity, and works in a riding school under the name of Gordan, to secure a cover.
• Professor Kom : its role seems to be that of a high-graded officer of the defense committee of the Dispensers of justice of Space, although nothing comes to confirm it. He is the father of Bimmy and the mentor of X-But, with whom he communicates via a giant screen on board vessel CTE.
• Bimmy : the charming team-member of X-But, who discreetly followed it on Earth in spite of the dissension of her own father Professor Kom. X-but is opposed first of all to its presence, fearing for its life, but it ends up recognizing in it a partner of choice, without counting that Bimmy seems to have weak for him… Bimmy has strange faculty to change into bird at will.
• Bolzar (Voicer) : father of X-But, former Dispenser of justice of disappeared Space whereas it developed the SST, a space gun of a considerable power able to destroy a planet. It was betrayed by its team-member and friendly K-Rex, which passed on the side of the enemy.
• K-Rex (Hunter-Killer) : Ex-dispenser of justice of Space and friendly near to Bolzar, K-Rex is a traitor who sold his heart with the forces of C-Rex, of which it orders the armies. However, incompetent to overcome X-But, it will cause the anger of their king Louis BMX-11 (Gift Hora), and will see himself driven out of their base. He will repurchase himself before dying while revealing with X-But where his/her father is held.
• Louis BMX-11 (Gift Hora) : sovereign of similar C-Rex to a monstrous idol with the multiple arms; its ultimate goal is to make itself main of the whole of cosmos. Although incompetent to be driven, it is able to create a parallel dimension by reversing the axis of rotation of a planet, in order to project there X-But when it fights his henchmen.
• Satana (San Doruba) : wire démoniaque of Louis BMX-11 who will come to replace K-Rex with the raised foot, without to show much more effective…
• Kiba : witch come from space; she is a little the guardian angel of Satana, and resides inside her three-pronged fork, with the manner of Mined, which lay inside cranium of the commander Minos in Goldorak.
• Kojiro Aoyama : photographer gaffor and awkward, who is the large friend of Gordan. Perched on its small Mobylette and affublé of an enormous pair of glasses rounds, he dreams to be able one day to take down a scoop by photographing UFOS.
• Starrex (Doublerman) : these beings with the massive breadth and the developed canines constitute the pure stock of the C-Rex race, and are able to change appearance at will.

Technology

Arsenal of X-But

• Laséro-Z/Plutono-laser/Laséro-Plutonic Ray (Beam Laser-Z) : laser beam projected since the gantelet right of the diving-suit of X-But, able to destroy a monster of low power.
• Infra-red Vision/Visualoscope (Laser-scope) : infra-red system of vision allowing to locate any adversary become invisible, and integrated in the helmet of the diving-suit.
• cybero-magnetic Screen : simple magnetic shield generated opposite X' But, to protect it from a direct attack.
• Laséro-blade (Laser-blade) : death-blow, consistent arms par excellence in a chrome sword spouting out of the left gantelet of X-but; the blade changes into a laser beam right before carrying the final blow to an enemy, who finds himself generally distinct into two over all his length! Before carrying the death-blow, X-But is often devoted to a small joke style “You will have wanted it! ”, " Good-bye, C-rex! " , or " One divides pear into two… ".

Vehicles and Matched S

• CTE/Cabine de Transit in Space (Dolgiran) : vessel of combat of X-But, it constitutes a true mobile base which lies permanently in stratosphere. In addition to its firepower devastator, it conceals other specialized vehicles, and its lower part can be detached from the unit to transform itself into a powerful mechanical dragon called Morox.
• Morox (Denji Seiju Fraud) : this immense metal dragon is undoubtedly the most powerful weapon of all the arsenal of X-But, which in general uses it against the space hunters of C-Rex, or vis-a-vis a giant monster. X-but is held then upright on its muzzle, and directs it to the voice. Morox can spit of the flames and project powerful energy rays, unless it does not take the desire to him all for sweeping of a great blow of tail… X-but calls upon it while shouting “With me, Morox! ”, which is followed of a Stock shot showing the dragon howling
• Molotox (Gavvion Tank I and II) : heavy combat tank, stored inside the CTE; its upper part can disunite herself, to become an air hunter; moreover, the tank conceals a small yellow vehicle (Scooper in VO) resembling a drilling machine, and able to travel in basement.
• Rollersky (Cyberian) : flying motorcycle combination of red color, also stored in the CTE; X-but to traver the black hole of C-Rex uses it especially to travel, when it must continue a monster.

Comments

This series was an immense success in France in the Années 1980. The song of the credits is signed by a certain Paul Persavon, who is not other than Antoine de Caunes, wire of Jacqueline Joubert then direct of the programs youth of Antenna 2. But success will be also with go in its country of origin, where the series will obtain unequalled scores of audience since Ultraman or Kamen Rider . X-But will give rise to moreover two continuations, Sharivan (in France under the name X-But 02 (to pronounce “ix-but-zero-two”) and Capitaine Sheider , which takes again the same concept.

Kenji Ōba, the main actor, is at the origin of the sword-laser of X-But. It imposed it on the production thus wanting to carry out one of its dreams: to fight with the Saber-laser, arms that he had appreciated much in the film the Star Wars .

The original name of the hero, Gavan, is quite simply the translation in Japanese of the French name Gabin (reference to Jean Gabin, very popular in the Japanese archipelago for its roles of police officer).

Anecdotes

• Hiroishi Watari alias Sharivan (X-But 2), Jaspion, Metalder and Spielvan was the guest of honor of Japan Expo 6th Impact in July 2004.

• If Kenji Ōba is known to have incarnated X-But under the features of Gordan, on the other hand, it was Hiroshi Watari which played the majority of the scenes out of combat diving-suit.

• In 2003, Kenji Oba, appears in the film Kill Bill of Quentin Tarentino. Guess where….
