Xénogreffe

The xénogreffe indicates the transplantation of a graft (Organe for example) where the donor is of biological different from that of the receiver . The pig is one of the best animals donors of bodies for the human one, because it has much more advantages than the monkey to be used for the xénogreffe. Research was in particular undertaken with INRA on pigs transgenic, which could have provided bodies " humanisés".

History

In 1905, a Lyons surgeon, Mathieu Jaboulay, tried the first xénogreffe while trying to transplant a kidney of goat on a woman having been confined. All the attempts at xénogreffes showed a failure because of the acute rejection of the body.

Ethical problems

Because in particular of the theoretical risk of transmission of animal viral diseases to the man, the generalization of this method of Clerc's Office must take account of a balance benefit/risk in term of public health.
